character:tove-zipporah

Tove Zipporah is the Pyu Ivvi gym leader and responsible for the Feather Badge. She specialises in Flying and Dragon pokémon. At 22, she's the youngest of the gymleaders, and the most recent to be instated (she did not witness Dakarai's gym run).

Personality

Tove is a pleasant, curious individual with an eccentric streak. Historically, the inhabitants of Pyu Ivvi didn't trust her, which has - rather than frustrating her or making her bitter - taught her much patience and understanding. These days, she accepts her 'outsider' role in Pyu Ivvi and the town in turn has come to respect her as who she is. If she ever needed it, she could easily get help from anyone in the town, but largely, she and the townsfolk avoid crossing paths and simply live in parallel. She's certainly considered an irremovable part of Pyu Ivvi by now, but is still referred to as 'that girl'.

She has a certain brightness and optimism to her that's quite infectious. Despite a certain air of near-naivité, the lady knows how to give an impression of being in control of things and happily in charge of others, taking to leadership quite naturally and self-assuredly, however quick to defer to someone giving an impression of both wanting to lead in a matter and being capable of it - and not a moment sooner. She can come across as fairly stubborn once she's latched onto an idea she's enamoured with, but it's simply her enthusiasm running away with her and bowling objections aside, not an actual underlying thick-skulled nature.

She has a gentle assertiveness to her. It's difficult for anyone to make her feel inferior, but there's no particular arrogance to her - she's just self-confident. She defers to Yarver and Jagdish from the bottom of her heart, but that's mostly because of what they represent, and because she's simply young and she knows there's life experience in her way of being a leader. She respects all people, unless they give her a reason not to. Occasionally, the collection of attributes gives her an oblivious air, like someone who doesn't live in the real world, or someone who's very naive. She's quick to trust, so it probably applies a bit, too.

In a way, once could say she ignores her outsider status. She has a symbol that tells her how to live her life - everything the circuit has taught her - and so the opinion of other people tends not to do her harm, though she still tries to get a good reputation whenever opportunity arises, since she does believe she has to actually function as a gym leader of Pyu Ivvi, and that, to her, means bonding with the locals.

Sexuality

Sexuality

Tove is at most bi-curious, otherwise quite firmly physically attracted to guys. Purely romantically speaking, she can sway either way, but she's shy around women that interest her due to the lack of physical attraction making it awkward at best. She's firmly on the submissive side, though she can't be said to be masochistic. That being said, being tied up a little is nothing she'd ever object to, and she certainly enjoys her fair share of humiliation. She doesn't pursue those things, though, so someone not already inclined that way will just find themselves prompted into good old fashioned romantic smut with a faint flavour of dominance and submission.

Appearance

In a word, Tove is delicate, though her pragmatic approach to clothes and accessories occasionally hides her grace away. Her short to medium-length white hair often finds itself in various spiky or feathery styles, rebelling against gravity much like the pokémon she so cherishes. Her grey eyes are just dark enough to capture an onlooker's attention, alive with her trademark optimism.

Whenever the wind tugs at the coast of Pyu Ivvi (frequent as that is) or she's flying with her pokémon, she wears a leather jacket and trousers and keeps a pair of goggles on her that she'll don for particularly steep dives.

Pokémon

  • Hayato (Spearow)
  • Wyvern (Aerodactyl)
  • ??? (Fearow, with Fly and Peck)
  • ??? (Noctowl, with Hypnosis)

Opinions

Tove is a firm supporter of the Sehto gym circuit and considers herself friend to nearly all gymleaders (though this isn't necessarily reciprocated). She adores Dakarai N'Sehla, Yarver Bakema and Jagdish Tsukinaka, though she'd only call her interest in Yarver a crush (only under duress, though!), while Dakarai and Jagdish are more platonic delights. That doesn't stop most people who've seen her and Dakarai together from assuming they're a couple, since she certainly doesn't mind him sleeping over and they're quite happy to spend much time together in private.

History

Tove is originally from Vale, daughter of a fisherman family. After rescuing a Spearow from a fishing net that it had gotten tangled in and nursing it back to health against the express wishes (but nonetheless tolerance) of her parents, Tove took to a gleeful obsession with pokémon and began the life of a classic Kanto-style pokémon trainer, sensing adventure and excitement, a bit to the horror of her friends and family. Utterly unconcerned with their outlook, Tove apprenticed under Yarver Bakema for a while, before taking on the gym circuit despite his - all too familiar at that point - urging not to.

Somewhat ironically, her drive was for her pokémon, desiring to get the badges as a means for them to have their own excellence certified. As such, her enthusiasm for the circuit was hard to break by any hardship, and she plowed ahead despite all difficulties. The notion that she might have the opposite effect was so alien to her that when Jagdish explained as much, her reaction was one of incredulousness… that quickly transitioned to a visceral terror. She probably wins the award for 'most begging and pleading to be spared' and for 'most tears shed'. On the flip side, she managed not to be pathetic about it beyond instinctive reactions and Jagdish was fond of her even pre-trial, if thoroughly concerned about her (as he still is), and so she's also the one person he gave tips to as to how to best deal with the punishment she was going to get, since he certainly wasn't making an exception for her just because she was being kind of cute about it.

Regardless, Tove came out the other end a disheveled, jittery mess. To say she'd learnt her lesson would be an understatement and she swore to all deities known to Sehtoan culture that she was never ever going to do something so recklessly stupid again.

That lasted about as long as her installment as a gym leader in Pyu Ivvi, of course, since Tove's ability to curb her enthusiasm away from stupid things is rather lacking. The gym leader thing was somewhat hesitantly decided for much that reason, but Jagdish figured if worst came to worst, he could just reverse the decision and claim temporary vacation of the old gym leader, Mortimer Terrell - with the footnote that 'old' here has an additional literal meaning, serving as the main motivator to consider Tove as a replacement at all. So far, there are no regrets, but the concern itself still persists.

Descriptions from Sessions

Collected from Arsaga:

It is then that the door set into the ivory dome opens and a lithe lady steps out, the only skin visible being that of her neck and face, forearms clad in elbow-length gloves, her right arm raised slightly, carrying 'Hayato'. Her facial features are invisible at this distance, but she casts her arm up, and the bird lets itself be launched into the air, spreading its wings and heading back towards the visitors.

The bird arrives, and Tove is seen reading the note in casual stand, before nodding thoughtfully, right hand's index finger and thumb clasped around her chin, before moving to scribble a response on a fresh paper. Hayato is quick to deliver it after its been written, fluttering to a stop on the pole once more. The note, once carefully detached from its claws, reads: “Hello, strangers! Mr. Arsaga has successfully battled for the Feather Badge before - I would rather he did not insist on a rematch, for time reasons. I am ready for Miss Ravi and Miss Arsaga, though I understand latter cannot battle right now. The PokéCenter's owner recently passed away, but I do own the keys. I will send a friend to operate it for you as soon as the battle with Miss Ravi ends.”

“Unfortunately, I have no space to offer for the night, though if you have no other options, I will personally talk to the citizens of Pyu Ivvi and organise you a hospitable stay. I apologise for any inconvenience. You may now commence battle or send another message - I am ready either way. With warmest regards, - Tove Zipporah.”

“Dear Miss Ravi, you've won the Feather Badge, congratulations! […] If you'll give me a few minutes, my friend will be right with you. You're invited to head to the PokéCenter already, if you'd rather wait where - to put it bluntly - you're less likely to get something crapping on your head. Sincerely, - Tove Zipporah.”

Tove walks across to Nikki, slowly. She's wearing high heels, if not particularly, er, high ones - and she's clad in a slightly reflective leather pants and a jacket that's reminiscent of pilots. No surprise, given her love for bird pokémon. “Miss Arsaga, I presume?” Her voice is pleasant, though fairly low for a female's. Her skin's slightly tanned, surprisingly, and she extends a vaguely copper hand to help Nikki down, or just shake a hand in formal greeting, whichever the lass preferred.

Tove's smile is contageous, a bright, beaming thing, brimming with energy. “I'm glad you think so, Miss Arsaga,” she inclines her head in gesture of a bow. “This is Wyvern,” she introduces her to the Aerodactyl, which rumbles softly again. “If you want to give her a pat, now's your chance,” she chuckles.
